Onboarding a new person
There's no signup — you onboard by committing your own logs/ and goals/ folders, the same way everyone else here did. The
example-person folders in the repo are a living template: copy their pattern
rather than inventing your own.
-
1. Pick a slug
A lowercase, hyphenated name (e.g.
jane-doe) — this exact string is used everywhere: frontmatter'spersonfield, the URL, dashboard cards. There's no separate display name, so keep it URL-safe and don't use spaces or capitals. -
2. Create your first goal file
A person only shows up on the dashboard once they have at least one log or goal entry — one
pendinggoal with no schedule yet is enough to start. Fill this in and it'll open a prefilled file on GitHub for you to commit:See
goals/example-person/claude-cert.mdfor what a schedule-less starter goal looks like once committed. -
3. Log sessions as you go
Not required on day one — a zero-entry person still renders correctly everywhere. Once you're ready, every person's hub page has a Log today form of its own; see the logging guide for the full set of fields, statuses, and limits.
-
4. Don't touch any code
Topics, schedules, and the person list are all derived from your files — nothing is hardcoded. If onboarding ever seems to require a code change, something's wrong with the code, not your files.
